AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University baseball team took both games of a doubleheader on Friday at Lake Myrtle Park against Mount St. Joseph, downing the Lions, 3-1 and 6-5.
In game one,
Louie Mosca (Old Tappan, N.J.) took the bump, pitching six innings, with six hits, and one run, striking out five.
MarkAnthony Glickman (Newbury, Mass.) earned the save, shutting down the Lions in his one inning of work.
Six players recorded hits for the Hawks, with
Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) earning an RBI on a home run.
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) had a hit with a double on the day, while
Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) had an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Mount St. Joseph opened the game with a double through the right side, bringing in the Lions base runner from second base, following a steal.
The Hawks leveled the score in the bottom of the third with
Rory Lynch (Easton, Conn.) punching a single to shortstop, but the throw went wide allowing
Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) to come across to score. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Hawks added another run, with Hibbard hitting a ball deep to right field, allowing Flynn to come across the plate to give Roger Williams their first lead of the day, 2-1.
In the bottom half of the sixth, the Hawks added another run with Sheehan hitting a ball over the left field wall to secure the win.
In the Hawks second game,
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) and Sheehan each had a pair of RBIs, with
London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) and
Ty Cali (Taunton, Mass.) each going one for three with an RBI.
Brett Lauterbach (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up his first win of the season going 2.2 innings with four strikeouts, while holding the Lions hit less.
After a home run pout Mount St. Joseph up 2-0 in the opening inning, the Hawks added a run off an RBI single to center by Cali to cut the deficit in half. The Hawks then added another run after Morin hit a sac fly to center field, bringing in Flynn.
The Lions added another pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but Roger Williams erupted for four runs in the top half of the fifth, with a triple to right field by Camelo scoring the first. Morin then hit a ball to shortstop to bring in Camelo to level the game at 4-4, before Sheehan knocked a double to left center, giving Roger Williams a 6-4 lead.
The Lions scored another run off a home run but Lauterbach came in to hold onto the one run lead for the win.
Roger Williams (8-0, 0-0 CCC) will face Worcester State on Saturday at 10:30 am at Lake Myrtle Park for their final matchup of their Florida Trip.
