BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University baseball team lost to Eastern Connecticut State on Monday afternoon, 10-7, on Paolino Field.
Lucas Lariviere (Cumberland, R.I.) started the game on the mound for Roger Williams. Though 3.2 innings of work, Lariviere gave up 4 hits, one walk, and 5 runs, only one of which was earned.
The Roger Williams offense was led by Ty Cali (Taunton, Mass.), who went 3-5 with two RBI's and one run scored. Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) went 2-4 in the game with two runs scored, while Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.), Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.), and Ethan Keeney (Harwich, Mass.) all recorded multi-hit games.
The Warriors started their scoring with one unearned run in the top of the first inning. The Hawks retaliated in the bottom of the inning, tying the score with an RBI fielder's choice by Hibbard.
ECSU broke the tie in the top of the third inning, giving the Warriors a 2-1 advantage. However, the Hawks struck again in the bottom of third. Rory Lynch (Easton, Conn.) tied the game with an RBI single to center field, and Cali gave the Hawks the lead on a single to right field in the next at bat.
ECSU scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead back, before scoring five more unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to give the Warriors a 10-3 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Roger Williams put up two runs on an RBI fielder's choice by Sheehan and an RBI single by Cali. The Hawks added to their rally in the bottom of the ninth, when Hawley scored two runners on a single to right-center. The rally came down to the very last out, with the Hawks getting the tying run up to bat. Unfortunately, they were unable to complete the comeback.
Roger Williams (10-2, 0-0 CCC) will take on Wentworth in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener on Tuesday, Mar. 26 at 3:00 pm on Paolino Field.
