BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University softball team picked up a non-conference win on Tuesday afternoon, splitting with Mitchell. The Hawks dropped game on to the Mariners, 6-4, and won game two, 5-1 on Paolino Field.
In game one, the Hawks'
Natalie Lundari took the loss pitching 6.2 innings, giving up four earned with nine strikeouts.
Hailey Williams, Kelsey Burr, and
Casey Uryga each had a pair of hits and an RBI in the game.
Mitchell struck first, scoring a run in the top of the second with a bases loaded walk. In the third, they would tack on two more with an RBI double and a error, allowing a run to score. In the fifth Mitchell, added a fourth run with another bases loaded walk, being disciplined at the plate, drawing eight in the game.
In the bottom half of the inning, Roger Williams erupted for four runs, beginning with a single by Uryga down the right field line. With Uryga on second, Williams hit a single to right, to cut the deficit to four.
Howell then hit a ball deep, allowing a run to score before Burr hit a single up the middle to bring in
Kayleigh O'Connor. In the top of the seventh, Mitchell scored two runs with a groundout and a single to center, taking the 6-4 win.
In game two,
Kiera Quadros pitched a complete game, shutting down the Mariner offense, holding them to one run, unearned, and striking out seven. Williams had three hits, with
Shannon Starratt earning a pair of hits with two RBIs, while Quadros also added offense, going one-for-one at the dish with a pair of RBIs.
With the bases loaded, Quadros chopper towards second base, that managed to find it's way through the gap, bringing in
Caroline Thomas and a speedy
Josley Sosa from second base. After Uryga came in for Quadros, Starratt doubled to left center field, bringing Uryga and Williams across taking a 4-0 lead.
Mitchell got a run back in the top of the sixth, but Thomas hit a double to center field for the final run of the outing.
Roger Williams (12-14, 2-6 CCC) will travel to Gordon on Saturday, Apr. 20 at 12:00 pm before hosting Suffolk for a doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 21.
