BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University baseball team defeated the Curry Colonels, 12-2, on Tuesday at Paolino Field, defeating their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe in resounding fashion.
The Hawks hit three home runs in the contest, with
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.),
Rory Lynch (Easton, Conn.), and
Dennis Folan (Medfield, Mass.) accomplishing the feat. Lynch went 2-for-4 on the day with five RBIs and a run, with
Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) and Folan each earning a pair of hits, with a double.
Conor Quinlan (Taunton, Mass.) picked up the win against the Colonels, going 5.0 innings with two earned runs, with eight hits and five strikeouts, with no walks, pushing his record to 3-0 on the season.
Nick Gleason (Northboro, Mass.) pitched a scoreless 2.0 innings with a hit and three strikeouts, with the two pitchers combining for no walks in the game.
Erik Leonard was responsible for the two runs for the Colonels, with a pair of solo home runs. Dale Beneway earned the loss in the contest for Curry moving to 0-2 on the season.
Curry was the first on the scoreboard with a home run by Leonard, but the Hawks responded with a home run of their own by Folan leveling the score at 1-1 after the second. The Hawks took the lead in the third inning, with
Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) earning a bases loaded walk to take a 2-1 lead. Lynch then stepped to the plate, and connected on the barrel of the bat, sending a ball of the straight-away center field wall, leading 6-1.
In the fourth, Curry added their second home run from Leonard, but Hawley hit a sacrifice fly out to left field, bringing in the Hawks seventh run of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Morin was the second to hit the ball of the straight away center field wall, giving Roger Williams an 8-2 lead. Sheehan then hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth, with the Hawks bringing in three more runs in the seventh to invoke the run rule.
Roger Williams (14-2, 4-0 CCC) are scheduled to face UMass Boston on Thursday, Apr. 4 at 3:00 pm at Monan Park. The Hawks will then be in Wenham for a CCC doubleheader against Gordon on Saturday, Apr. 6.
