WENHAM, Mass. – Roger Williams came out on top in both games of their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) baseball doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Gordon, defeating the Fighting Scots 7-2 in game one and 5-3 in game two.
Louie Mosca (Old Tappan, N.J.) earned the win in game one going 4.0 innings with two hits and a pair of walks, with JT Gunzy coming into the game in relief to close out the contest.
Roger Williams dominated the second inning with a five-run surge. Aidan Hawley's timely single down the right field line brought in two runs, while Owen Hibbard's hit by pitch added another run to their tally. By the end of the second inning, Roger Williams had secured a 5-0 lead.
Gordon fought back in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a failed pickoff attempt to add a run to their score line, bringing the score to 5-1.
However, the Hawks continued to maintain their momentum, adding two more runs in the sixth inning, courtesy of Hibbard's grounded out and Nick Sheehan being hit by a pitch, extending their lead to 7-1.
Although Gordon managed to notch another run in the seventh inning with a single but the Hawks were able to hold the Scots to the lone run in the seventh, securing the victory and marking Head Coach Kevin Kelley's 100th career win as a head coach.
In game two, Lucas Lariviere earned the win, throwing 4.0 innings with one earned run allowed striking out three. MarkAnthony Glickman picked up the save, pitching 0.2 innings in the bottom of the seventh.
Gordon took an early lead in the first inning when a throwing error allowed the first run to come in. However, Roger Williams responded in the top half of the third inning, capitalizing on errors by Gordon's defense to score three runs.
Gordon narrowed the gap in the third inning with a run scored off an RBI ground out, cutting the Hawks lead to one.
In the fourth inning, Roger Williams extended their lead to 4-2 as Sheehan's sacrifice fly brought in Rory Lynch.
The score remained unchanged until the seventh inning when the Hawks added another run, courtesy of a bases-loaded walk, increasing their lead to 5-2.
Gordon fought back in the bottom of the seventh with a run but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
Roger Williams (16-2, 6-0 CCC) will face Keene State on Wednesday, Apr. 10 at 3:30 pm in Keene, N.H. The Hawks will then host Rhode Island College on Thursday, Apr. 11 at 3:30 pm before hosting a CCC doubleheader against #1 Endicott.
