Bristol, R.I. - Roger Williams swept Hartford in their non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks won the first game 7-4, and the second game 9-5. Both games were played on Paolino Field.
Before the first game, Roger Williams honored eleven seniors. London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.), Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.), MarkAnthony Glickman (Newbury, Mass.), Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.), Max Andrade (Tewksbury, N.J.), Justin Fraleigh (Rocky Hill, N.Y.), Brett Lauterbach (Fairfield, Conn.), Brandon Csizmadia (Trumbull, Conn.) Mike Masino (Bayville, N.J.), Nick Zobian (Califon, N.J.), and Conor Gaughan (Walpole, Mass.) were all honored during the senior day celebration.
In the first game, Louie Mosca (Old Tappan, N.J.) recorded the win on the mound. In seven innings, Mosca allowed four runs on six hits and struck out four batters. J.T. Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) and Brandon Csizmadia both pitched an inning in relief, with neither allowing a hit and Csizmadia picking up the save.
Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) led the Hawks on offense in game one. Sheehan went 3-4 at the plate and recorded an RBI. Aidan Hawley, Dennis Folan (Medfield, Mass.), and London Camelo all had multi-hit games, with Hawley and Camelo each recording an RBI.
Hartford scored first, putting three runs on the board in the second inning. Roger Williams answered in the fourth inning with two runs, coming off a HBP and a walk with the bases load. In the fifth inning RWU evened the score, with Camelo coming home on a wild pitch. The Hawks took the lead later that inning on a base hit by Hawley and scored again on a wild pitch to give Roger Williams a 5-3 lead.
Hartford added a run in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to one. However, a sacrifice fly by Ty Cali (Taunton, Mass.) and a single by Camelo brought in two more runs for the Hawks, securing their first win of the day.
In the second game, Justin Fraleigh started on the mound. In one inning of work, Fraleigh allowed one run on two hits. Following Fraleigh, Lucas Lariviere (Cumberland, R.I.) came in for relief. In six innings, Larivirere allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk. Conor Gaughan and MarkAnthony Glickman also each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
On offense, the second game was dominated by Jack Morin. Morin hit two home runs for the Hawks in his 2-3 day at the plate. He contributed five RBIs and three runs scored to the RWU offense, while also being walked twice. Hawley and Camelo also recorded multi-hit games for their second time of the day.
Hartford once again started the game in the lead, scoring a run in the first inning. In the third with two outs and a man on first, Morin recorded his first home run of the day to give the Hawks the lead. Hartford would tie the game in the top of the fourth inning, but Roger Williams rallied in the bottom of the inning. Cali singled to score one run, and Morin would later add his second home run of the game, this time a three-run blast.
Hartford added another run in the sixth, but RWU once again rallied in the bottom of the inning to score three more runs and extend their lead, 9-3. Hartford would add two runs in the seventh but were unable to rally any further.
Roger Williams (20-6-1, 7-2 CCC) will host the Unviersity of Saint Joseph on Monday, Apr. 22 at 3:30 pm before traveling to face Curry on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at 3:00 pm for a CCC contest.
