Bristol, R.I. – The Roger Williams University softball team swept their doubleheader on D. Forbes Will Field this Saturday Afternoon against Curry. The Hawks won the first game 10-1, and the second game 3-1.
Raegan Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) picked up her seventh win of the season in the game, pitching the complete game while allowing five hits and one run. Germano also struck out three batters.
On offense, Kayleigh O'Conner (Southington, Conn.) led the Hawks with three hits and one RBI. Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.), Shannon Starratt (Lake George, N.Y.), and Christina Denovellis (Rocky Hill, Conn.) also had multi-hit games for Roger Williams.
The Hawks scored in the first inning, adding a run on a double to right field by Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.). In the second inning, RWU added another run on a home run by Denovellis. Curry responded in the fourth inning, scoring their first and only run on a single to center field.
Roger Williams added eight unanswered runs between the fifth and seventh innings to extend their lead to nine and close the door on game one.
In game two, Keira Quadros (East Providence, R.I.) started for the Hawks. Quadros pitched the whole game, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out two.
Williams and Denovellis had three hits each for Roger Williams in game two. Casey Uryga (Berlin, Conn.) also recorded a multi-hit game for the Hawks. Denovellis and O'Conner each recorded one RBI.
Both runs scored by Roger Williams in game two came in the third inning. O'Conner hit an RBI single back to the pitcher to score the first run, and Denovillis singled to left field later in the inning to give RWU a 2-0 lead.
Curry cut the lead in half in the fifth inning. A sacrifice fly to center field gave Curry their first run of the game. However, neither team scored in either of the last two innings, giving the Hawks the doubleheader sweep.
Roger Williams (16-14, 6-6 CCC) will travel to Wenham, Mass. on Sunday, Apr. 28 to take on Gordon in a doubleheader. The Hawks will then return home on Tuesday, Apr. 30 for a doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene.
