Box Score Bristol, R.I. – The Roger Williams University baseball team lost to #6 Salve Regina on Tuesday afternoon, 9-4. The game was played on Brother Michael Reynolds Field.
Nolan Nizol (Sparta, N.J.) started on the mound for the Hawks. Nizol cruised through the first five innings, not allowing a run. However, the sixth inning spelled trouble for the lefty, giving up five earned runs without recording an out. Nizol ended with five innings pitched, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three. Ryan Camp (Chesire, Conn.) came in for relief in the sixth, getting through the inning without allowing a run to score. Matt Hynes (Farmingdale, N.Y.) pitched 0.2 innings in relief to follow Camp, giving up one run. Brett Lauterbach (Fairfield, Conn.) also came in, but gave up three runs in one inning of work.
On offense, London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.), Chris Faraca(Peabody, Mass.), and Ty Cali (Taunton, Mass.) all had two hits for the Hawks. Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) went 1-4, with a home run and two RBIs. Camelo and Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) also had RBIs in the game.
Roger Williams struck first in the fifth inning. An RBI single to right field by Camelo scored the first run of the game, giving the Hawks an early lead. Salve Regina had an offensive outburst in the sixth inning, scoring five runs. The Seahawks added another run in the seventh, giving them a 6-1 lead.
In the eighth inning, Sheehan gave the Hawks their second run on an RBI single to right field, scoring Faraca. Salve Regina responded in the bottom of the inning with three more runs, making it a 9-2 game. A two-run home run by Hibbard in the ninth cut into the lead, but RWU was unable to rally further.
Roger Williams (22-10-1, 8-4 CCC) will conclude their regular season on Saturday, May 4 in a doubleheader against Western New England starting at 12:00 pm.
