Women's Lacrosse: Hawk's defeat UNE in Semifinal for chance at CCC Title

Bristol, R.I.– The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team defeated University of New England on Wednesday afternoon, 23-7, on Bayside Field.

On the attack, the Hawks began the game having seven goals within the first period. Goal scorers Emma Terino (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) put away three and two goals respectively early on the in-game, giving the Hawks a good lead in the first period. Terino sported a total of seven goals herself throughout the contest. Junior Kimmy Creegan (Ramsey, N.J.) also scored five goals throughout the matchup. The three players had a combined total of sixteen goals towards the final victory for the Hawks.

Defensively, Creegan also led the Hawks in ground ball pickups, having seven throughout the contest to gain possession for Roger Williams. Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) also had four caused turnovers during the matchup.

During the first half of the game, the Hawks put away more than half of the goals throughout the contest, having a total of fifteen goals going into the second half, with the University of New England having only managed to score three goals during this time, two goals from Barrie Guertin and one from Sydney Balotin. During the second period, UNE struggled to take shots, having only two throughout the period and allowing the Hawks to maintain their lead.

The Hawks slowed down in the second half, with only five goals scored during the third period. However, during this time, UNE was able to secure one more goal, trying to make a dent in the Hawk's lead. The Roger Williams Hawks scored a handful more goals during the fourth period with three goals in the final quarter, two of which were by senior Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.) and then Terino stepping up in the final seconds to put away one more.

The Hawks continue their win streak throughout the CCC tournament and continue to remain undefeated in the conference. This will be Roger William's fifth straight conference title game appearance. The Hawks are looking at a fourth CCC title win as they take on Endicott on Saturday, May 4th at 1:00pm at home on Bayside Field.
