BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University softball team advanced in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament on Thursday morning, defeating Suffolk, 7-0.
 
Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) pitched a complete game 7.0 innings, with two hits and a walk allowed with a pair of strikeouts. Cynthia Rucinski picked up the loss, giving up five runs, one earned, with five hits and a walk with a strikeout.
 
Shannon Starratt (Lake George, N.Y.) had a pair of RBIs with three hits, while Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.) had a pair of RBIs with two hits. Jolie Quintana went 1-for-3 at the dish with Julia Mills adding a hit in the contest.
 
The contest was scoreless until the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, Casey Uryga (Berlin, Conn.) drew a walk. Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.) then hit a sacrifice fly to right center field, brining in another run to put the Hawks up, 2-0.
 
Two batters later, Starratt then hit a double to left center field with Uryga and Cece Baptista (Central Falls, R.I.) coming across to score. Howell then came up and hit a double to left field to take a 5-0 lead after the second.
 
The Hawks tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth inning, with Howell striking first with a double to right center field to bring in Starratt. Jaime Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) then added a run with a single up the middle.
 
Roger Williams (10-16, 9-7 CCC) will face the winner of No. 3 Nichols and No. 1 Endicott, approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the contest on Thursday.
