BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Athletic Department is excited to announce the promotion of Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach
Matt Emmert to Assistant Athletic Director.

I know his insight, enthusiasm, and creativity will be a great addition to our senior athletic administration and will benefit our student-athletes with his student-centric focus," spoke Interim Director of Athletics

"Together, we will strive to elevate RWU to a premier Division III athletic program, where excellence in competition and the holistic development of students goes hand-in-hand."
Emmert joined the Hawks' in 2012, where he has coached both the men's and women's swimming programs and has continually shattered the limits of the Hawks program, including the first-ever NCAA Championship appearance for both squads.
Emmert has coached over 170 NEISDA champions throughout his tenure at Roger Williams while earning NEISDA Men's and Women's Coach of the Year honors during the 2019-20 campaign, the same year that both programs won both NEISDA titles.
Before joining the Hawks in 2012, Emmert served as an assistant coach at the University of Maryland, where he helped guide the team to a #19 national ranking during the season, with four swimmers earning a spot at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming Championships.
Before joining the Terrapins, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Christian University, which helped bring the Horned Frogs to a 2011 Mountain West Conference Championship in the Women's 100 Yard Freestyle. He also helped to lead the 2010 Mountain West regular season championship, with a 7-0 record in dual meets.
Emmert got his start at the University of Rhode Island where he graduated in 2004, and was a four-year letterwinner and team captain his senior season. Emmert also earned his start in collegiate coaching, spending three years as a volunteer assistant coach.
