BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams women's tennis team closed out their opening day with a 6-1 victory over non-conference opponent Simmons, to jump start their 2024 campaign.
With the win, the Hawks move to 10-2 all time against the Sharks. Roger Williams has now extended their winning streak to 10 against Simmons.
In doubles action, the team of
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) and
Valentina Abarca defeated their opponents Emily Lopez and Julia Perconti 6-4, in the No. 2 doubles match up. The No. 3 doubles team of
Adrian Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) then took down their foes 6-1. The No. 1 doubles match up saw a battle between the Hawks
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and the Sharks Resse McFarland and Emma Parsons with Simmons picking up the match 6-4.
In singles action, Abarca took the first point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Perconti in the No. 3 spot. Ferraro then clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win in her match at No. 1 singles.
Roger Williams closed out the match, sweeping the final four singles matches, to close out the win.
Roger Williams (1-0, 0-0 CNE) will travel to Division II Saint Anselm on Monday, Sept. 2 at 1:00 pm. The Hawks will then travel to Regis on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 4:00 pm.
