MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team dropped their match against NCAA Division II opponent Saint Anselm on Monday afternoon, 6-1, at the South Athletic Fields in New Hampshire.
In doubles action, Saint Anselm picked up the point after Julie Börschig and Natalia Ramos Gonzalez, earned the 6-0 win over
Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.). Irene Garbo and Camila Heredia Osante then picked up a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot, to secure the win before Abigail Svor and Olivia Parzick secured the doubles sweep.
Gonzalez Ramos picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles before Garbo took the top singles match 6-1, 6-1, putting Saint Anselm up 3-0. Svor then earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, while Heredia Osante handed Mancini her first collegiate loss in singles play, ending her streak at 21 straight matches to open her career.
Börschig picked up the sixth point of the match in No. 2 singles for Saint Anselm, securing a 6-1, 6-3 victory, before
Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) earned a 7-6, 6-4 victory in No. 6 singles to earn the lone point of the match for Roger Williams.
Roger Williams (1-1, 0-0 CNE) will face Regis on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 4:00 p.m. at the Regis Tennis Courts. The Hawks will then travel to Wheaton to face the Lyons on Saturday, Sept. 7.
