NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team defeated Salve Regina University, 2-0, Sunday afternoon on Reynolds Field.
The Hawks came out strong during the first half of the game, sophomore
Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) putting away a quick goal assisted by
Sarah Newman (Sayville, N.Y.) just four and a half minutes in. The Hawks maintained steady pressure early on, having dished out thirteen shots by the end of the half. In the second half, the Hawks faced countless shots from Salve Regina's Marissa Perachi but continued to apply heavy pressure and recover defensively. At the 60-minute mark, the Hawks put in another goal this time by
Julia Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) which was assisted by
Rachel Oster (Scituate, R.I.).
Offensively, Oster led the Hawks in shots and shots on goal for the game with seven and four, respectively, throughout the matchup. Also having shots for the Hawks were
Sarah Baptista (Smithfield, R.I.) who had three shots, followed by
Sabrina Sherman (Brentwood, N.H.),
Eryn Parlin (New Sharon, Maine), and
Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, R.I.) with two shots each for the duration of the game.
Defensively, goalkeeper
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) faced only five shots during the matchup, allowing zero and maintaining her clean sheet for yet another game this season.
Roger Williams (2-0, 0-0 CNE) will be home on Tuesday, Sep. 3 at 7:00pm where they will host Anna Maria on Bayside Field before they take on WPI away in Worcester, Mass. on Sat Sep. 7 at 1:00pm.
