Men’s Soccer: Hawks Suffer First Defeat to MIT

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams men's soccer team fell to MIT 2-0 in non-conference action at Bayside Field.

The game began as a defensive battle, as both squads refused to break for the first 30 minutes of action. That was until a foul in the box gave MIT a penalty shot, which Shikhar Motupally would cash in on, giving the Engineers a 1-0 victory. MIT held up for last 15 minutes of the half, heading to the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

The second half continued to be a physical, defensive affair, until the Engineers would put away what would be the dagger at the 71st minute mark, when Dilin Meloni would find Jonah Gurion to expand the MIT lead to 2-0. This goal would finish off the scoring for the match, giving MIT the 2-0 victory in the non-conference action.

Roger Williams (3-1-1) will look to bounce back at home on Saturday, Sep. 14 at 3:00 PM against Wheaton. As for MIT (4-1-0), they will head back home to match up against Umass Boston on Saturday, Sep. 14 at 4:00 PM.
