BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team took a 7-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts against Clark in non-conference action.
The Hawks opened up by picking up the doubles point, sinning all three matches. The No. 3 doubles pairing of
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) earned a 6-0 win, before the No. 1 doubles team of
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) had a 6-1 victory to clinch the point.
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) and
Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) then earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Ferraro 6-0, 6-0 swept her opponent at No. 1 singles, with No. 3 singles going in favor of
Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador), 6-1, 6-0. Pecora clinched the match at No. 2 singles earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
In No. 4 singles, Mancini earned the win, defeating Varvara Maltseva, 6-2, 6-1, ahead of a win by Palmieri in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Petroniro then closed out the match 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles with the victory.
Roger Williams (5-1, 0-0 CNE) will host Nichols for their first Conference of New England (CNE) match of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 4:00 pm. The Hawks will then take on Curry on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 12:00 pm in Milton.
