WESTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team secured a 7-0 victory on Thursday afternoon at the Regis Tennis Courts as they defeated the Pride.
In doubles action,
Meghan Hughes (Watertown, Conn.) and
Emma Blanchard (Dayville, Conn.) took the first match for Roger Williams, sweeping their opponents, 6-0. the Hawks took the points with
Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) and
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) combining for a No. 1 doubles win, 6-2.
In singles play,
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) took her match by a score of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) picked up a win at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep, before
Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) won at No. 5 singles by a similar score.
A straight set sweep by
Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) at No. 3 singles and a No. 1 singles victory by
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) over her opponent sealed up matches for the day.
Roger Williams (2-1, 0-0 CNE) will travel to Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 12:00 pm before hosting Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 4:00 pm.
