WENHAM, MASS. – The Roger William's University field hockey team defeated Gordon on the road in Wenham, Mass. 9-0 on Saturday in their first conference matchup for the 2024 season.
The Hawks' offense had an amazing 35 shots throughout the match-up, 25 of which were placed on goal.
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y) registered eight points with four goals for the Hawks in this game with
Caroline Freeman (Falmouth, Mass.) and
Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) adding their names to scoreboard, each having a goal and an assist for three points each.
Anna Kruggel (Scituate, Mass.),
Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.), and
Lily Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.) also acquired points in this game, each gaining two points for their goals throughout the match. Defensively, goalkeeper,
Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.), picked up the win without having faced a single shot from Gordon.
At the start of the game, the Hawks were quick to put away the first goal of the matchup, by King, right at the two-minute mark assisted by Rocheleau. King had two more goals for the Hawks within the quarter bringing the score to 3-0 at the end of the period. In total, the Hawks had 12 shot attempts throughout the period.
The second quarter proved to be a bit calmer than the first, as the Hawks only had six shots and two goals, by Stevens and Rocheleau. The first half of the matchup ended 5-0 to the Hawks.
The Hawks entered the second half of the game just as they did the first, launching shots at goal, having a total of nine for the period and three of these became goals. The first goal during the third period was a milestone one, King surpassed 100 career points, the first time in Roger William's program history.
During the final period of the game, the Hawks had eight shots and Kruggel put away the final goal of the matchup about halfway through the period, ending the game 9-0 for the Hawks.
The Roger Williams (6-2, 1-0 CNE) will be on the road again where they will face off against Lasell in Newton, Mass. on Wednesday, Sept 25th at 5:00 pm before traveling to Hartford, Conn. Where they will take on Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday, Sept 28th at 11:00 am.
