AUBURNDALE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team defeated Lasell, 10-1, in a non-conference matchup at Griellier Field.
The Hawks outshot the Lasers, 38-7, with 28 of the Roger Williams shots landing on net. Roger Williams also won the penalty corner battle with seven to the Lasers' two.
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) had seven of her eight shots on goal, with a hat trick.
Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) also had two goals, with
Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) and
Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.), each scoring once
. Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) and
Emma Sheldon (Suffield, Conn.) each had an assist.
For the Lasers, Mara Boldy scored one goal in the match, while Alice Rourke and Jacquelyn Scopa each had a shot on goal. Courtney Tello had 11 saves in cage, while McKenna Ecker had another four in the match.
The opening goal of the match came 2:57 into the contest when Duquette squeezed a shot by Tello. The Hawks would pounce on the opportunity to extend their lead coming off a penalty corner at the 9:32 mark. King inserted the ball to Stevens, who then passed over to Rocheleau for the goal.
The Hawks again scored in quick succession, with Rocheleau and Sheldon putting goals away, 29 seconds apart, taking a 4-0 lead. After Monahan
scored her sixth goal of the season, giving Roger Williams a 5-0 lead, 2:08 into the second quarter, the Lasers struck with Boldy scoring 46 seconds later. After that King got into the action with a goal of her own for Roger Williams.
The Hawks led at the half and continued to expand their lead in the second, as King and
Lily Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.) added goals in the third, while Duquette and
Lauren Costanzo (North Andover, Mass.) each scored in the fourth to round out the contest.
Roger Williams (7-2, 1-0 CNE) will take on Trinity on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11:00 pm in Hartford. The Hawks will then host #15 MIT on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 pm on Bayside Field before rounding out the week with a match against Endicott, on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 12:00 pm.
