BRIDGEWATER, MASS. – The Roger Williams men's soccer team defeated Bridgewater State University 2-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.
The Hawks yet again book a come from behind victory, this time at the expense of Bridgewater, as first blood was not drawn until the early portion of the second half by the Bears. Filippo Mucci dropped in his third goal of the early season from both Ryan Healy and Dominek Borden to give the Bears a 1-0 lead with about 40 minutes to play. In typical fashion, the Hawks quickly responded with a goal of their own, as standout first year
Tyler Jastrab (Townsend Mass.), netted his third goal of the season from both senior captain
John Fogarty (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore
Dylan Thomas (Norwalk, Conn.). Both squads played it even for the next five minutes, until Roger Williams put away what would be the difference maker at the 61
st minute mark. Junior
Max Patenaude (Pepperell, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season on a feed from
Murphy Malone (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Tommy Bowen (Manchester, Mass.), allowing the Hawks to escape with a 2-1 victory on the road in non-conference action.
Individually, plenty of Hawks were involved in this one, as they had four men record assists,
John Fogarty,
Dylan Thomas,
Murphy Malone, and
Tommy Bowen. The goal scorers for the Hawks included
Tyler Jastrab, who is currently tied for the team lead in goals and
Max Patenaude who ranks second on the team in goals with two of his own on the season. For the Bears, Filippo Mucci recorded his third goal assisted from both Ryan Healy and Dominek Borden.
Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) recorded seven saves in the matchup, which is currently his season high for the year.
Roger Williams (6-2-1) (1-0 CNE) will next travel to Hartford on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3:00 PM for their second Conference of New England matchup. Bridgewater (2-3-2) will remain at home for a conference matchup against Fitchburg State on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 5:00 PM.
