LEXINGTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams Universtiy women's tennis team swept Conference of New England (CNE) play on Saturday, 7-0, on Saturday evening at the Lexington Tennis Club.
In doubles action, the Hawks earned the sweep beginning with the No. 3 doubles pairing of Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) and Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) earned a 6-0 victory, before a win by Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) then closed out doubles play with a 6-4 win.
In singles action, Abarca took a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles before No. 3 singles went in favor of No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-0, earning the victory.
Palmieri then followed with a 6-3, 6-0 earne the win at No. 4 singles, with Ferraro following with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top singles spot going up 5-0. McCarthy then earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, with No. 5 singels going in favor of Petroniro, 6-0, 6-2.
Roger Williams (7-2, 1-1 CNE) will host Gordon on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 4:00 pm before hosting Salve Regina on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 3:00 pm.
