Men’s Soccer: Hawks Draw Against Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I - In a thrilling back and forth battle, the Roger Williams men's soccer team tied Rhode Island College (RIC) in the third game of their season.

Despite many good looks for both sides, the first half of the battle ended scoreless, as neither team could seem to find the back of the net. Roger Williams fired off eight shots in the first half alone, however Anchorman goalkeeper Wesley Perrotto corralled four saves shutting out the Hawks in the half. The Anchorman got off just two of their own, both of which were saved by sophomore keeper Eliot Panaccione (Pepperell, Mass.), who was making his season debut in net.

Just nine minutes into the second half, Anthony Recinos drew first blood for the Anchorman, dropping in a shot from just outside the eighteen into the right side of the net giving RIC a 1-0 lead. Playing from behind is not something that the Hawks are accustomed to, however after multiple great looks, they were finally able to cash in following a missed penalty kick. After a beautiful save by Anchorman goalkeeper Wesley Perrotto, the ball was deflected into the air and headed in by Roger William's junior Liam Blaisdell (Plymouth, Mass.), evening the score at 1-1. The equalizer by Blaisdell would finish off the scoring for both sides for the match, ending the battle in a draw.

Roger Williams (2-0-1) will head back home to take on Salve Regina at Bayside Field on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 3:00 PM. As for RIC (0-1-1), they will stay at home to battle Fitchburg State College on Saturday Sept. 7th at 11:00 AM.
