Men’s Soccer: Secure Third Win in Non-Conference Action

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams men's soccer team defeated Salve Regina 1-0 in non-conference action on Saturday, Sep. 7 at Bayside Field.

The action began at the at the 8:30 mark when junior Will Schiffer (Cotuit, Mass.) headed in what would be decider on a beautiful ball from freshman Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.). Roger Williams would go on to hold the lead for the remainder of the game, behind strong team defense and possession of the ball. Salve was able to fire off 11 shots in the match, however the Hawks stifling defense limited any potential chances to equalize the match.

Individually, Schiffer was the standout for the Hawks, as his lone goal was all the Hawks needed to get the job done on Saturday afternoon. Roger Williams keeper Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) also stood out in net, as he faced 11 shots and recorded four saves, booking his third shutout of the season. The Hawks defensive unit as a whole was all over the field and limited Salve to mediocre looks at the net all game. Other notable performers include Jason Salley (Durham, Conn.), Andre Caceres (Ossining, N.Y.), and Jack Wildermann (Madison, Conn.), who all logged 90 minutes and were steady forces throughout the game.

For Salve, three players were able to fire off two shots a piece: Chase Zorner, Aaron Muncaster, and Daniel Goba. The defense also buckled down for Salve after the early slip up, as they blanked the Hawks for the last 80 minutes of the game.

Roger Williams (3-0-1) will take on MIT at home on Wednesday, Sep. 11 at 7:00 PM. As for Salve Regina, they will head back home to Newport to take on Connecticut College on Tuesday, Sep. 10 at 7:00 PM.
