BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team defeated Plymouth State, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon on Bayside Field in non-conference action.
The Hawks outshot the Panthers, 21-5, placing 15 of their attempts on cage. Roger Williams also led in penalty corner opportunities, 7-2.
Jill Haudenshield (Sykesvollie, Md.) and
Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) split time in cage, with Brazil picking up the lone save for the Hawks in the matchup.
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist for three points, with
Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) scoring on her lone shot attempt in the game, and dishing out an assist.
Kayla Antonucci was in net for the Panthers, making 10 saves, with Jenna Stowell putting the lone shot on target.
The Hawks struck first in the opening quarter, after King put a shot into the left-hand2 side of the net. In the second quarter, the Hawks struck twice, with King finding
Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) on the left side of the net in the 27
th minute, Rocheleau then fired a shot by the Plymouth State goalkeeper. Monahan then found
Lauren Costanzo (North Andover, Mass.) just over a minute later, to put the Hawks up 3-0 heading into the second half.
Coming out of the half, the Hawks added a pair of goals in the 43
rd minute of play, with
Caroline Freeman (Falmouth, Mass.) and Monahan each scoring to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
Roger Williams (3-1, 0-0 CNE) will host Simmons on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 4:00 pm, before taking on Westfield State on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10:00 am.
