Men’s Basketball: Hawks’ Offense Erupts for 110 as Three-Point Shooting Highlights Win Over Nor’easters

BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the third time this season, the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team scored over in triple figures, as the Hawks defeated the University of New England 110-77 on Saturday afternoon in the Harold Alfond Forum, in Conference of New England (CNE) action.
 
With the win, the Hawks move their record to 9-4, 4-2 in the CNE and the Nor'easters fall to 4-9 on the season, with a 2-4 record in conference play.
 
Mac Annus led the charge on the offensive end with 23 points, shooting 8-for-17 from the floor, with four rebounds and a steal. Philip Sughrue and Ty Higgins both tallied 16 points, with Sughrue, pulling down five rebounds and four assists, with a block on the defensive end. Nate Lopes and Finn Miller each had nine rebounds in the matchup, with 15 and 10 points respectively.
 
For the Nor'easters, Jaelen Jackson had 14 points, with a rebound, two assists, and a pair of steals, while Adam Lux had 11 points, with nine boards, and four assists. Jack Pyzynski and Kha Cao Ra James each had 10 points.
 
The Hawks shot 53 percent from the floor as a team, with 47.2 percent of their shots dropping in from long range.
 
RWU took the lead after buckets on their opening two possessions of the game, the Nor'easters tied the contest at 5-5, before taking the lead after a three by Jackson. With both teams playing a back-and-forth contest in the opening 7:32 of action, the Hawks then took the lead when Annus drilled a three to break a 19-19 tie. The Hawks then went on to a 15-3 run to take a 12-point lead with 9:53 remaining. RWU led by as many as 16 in the half, heading into the break holding a 54-39 lead.
 
The Hawks came out with some strong shooting in the second half, opening with a 10-4 scoring run.  The Hawks led by as many as 35 in the closing minute, as they cruised to the win in the second half.
 
Roger Williams (9-4, 4-2 CNE) will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 pm, before traveling to Gordon on Saturday, Jan. 18 for a 3:00 pm matchup.
