Men’s Basketball: Hawks Drop CNE Tilt to Endicott

BRISTOL, R.I. –  The Endicott Gulls defeated the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team, 86-72, Wednesday evening in the Campus Rec Center in Conference of New England (CNE) action.
 
As a team, the Gulls knocked down 46 percent of their shots from the field, and out rebounded the Hawks 44-33. Endicott also scored 42 points in the paint to Roger Williams' 34.
 
Individually Endicott (8-6, 5-2 CNE) was led by Marcus Montagino shot 11-for-17 from the floor, tallying a game-high 34 points, with 16 boards recording a double-double. Elijah Kinney, also tallied double figures, scoring 19 points with seven rebounds.
 
For Roger Williams, The Hawks were led in scoring by Nate Lopes who tallied 14 points, with a pair of rebounds and two steals. Mac Annus and Will MacDonald each tallied 10 points in the game, with Finn Miller and Ryan Higgins accounting for eight each.
 
Endicott opened up scoring in the contest, with a three coming off a pass from Cam Keliher by Jeff Hill. After the Hawks scored off a layup by Ty Higgins, the two teams battled back and forth. With the Gulls scoring a pair of points from the free throw line, they sparked a 9-2 run going up 15-8.
 
With the score in favor of the Gulls 18-12, Roger Williams responded with a three from Ashton Leclerc to cut into the deficit. Endicott again used a key scoring run, led off by a three from AJ Forte, outscoring the Hawks 12-3, over a 3:06 stretch in the first. Endicott maintained their lead and extended the lead to 13, heading into the break 50-37.  
 
Endicott was able to manage to maintain their lead throughout the second half, leading by as many as 22 in the half.
 
Roger Williams (9-4, 4-2 CNE) will visit CNE opponent Gordon on Saturday, Jan. 18 for a 3:00 pm tip. RWU will then visit Hartford as the two Hawks battle on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 pm. The Hawks will host Nichols on Saturday, Jan. 25 at home at 3:00 pm.
