Hawks Dominate Gordon, Improve to 7-1 in CNE Play

WENHAM, MASS. – The Roger Williams women's basketball team improved to 7-1 on Saturday afternoon, defeated Gordon College in dominant fashion, 86-54. The win allows the Hawks to continue to share first place with Western New England.
 
In the first frame, both teams went back and forth for all ten minutes, with a total of seven lead changes taking place. Gordon opened a lead as large as seven points, however the Hawks responded with a 7-2 run to close the quarter, limiting the deficit to two. The second quarter was all Hawks, as they would outscore the Fighting Scots 27-15 in the frame, highlighted by 14-5 run to close the half. The run gave the Hawks a 45-35-point lead heading into the locker room. Out of the half, Roger Williams held the opponent to just seven points for the entirety of the third quarter, expanding their lead to 14 in the process. The fourth quarter was more of the same, with the Hawks running away with a 32-point victory.
 
The Hawks shot 49% to Gordon's 36% from the field in the matchup, while also out rebounding the opponent 52-27 on the glass. The large rebounding deferential was due to the Hawks 19 offensive rebounds in the victory. Hawks
 
Individually, it was a balanced effort for the Hawks, as the women had 12 different members record points, with all five starters recording double figures. Chloe Richardson (Norwell, Mass.) paced the Hawks with 14 points, shooting 5-10 from the field. Lilli Clark (Willimantic, Conn.) added 13 of her own, securing six rebounds in the process. Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) led the unit on the glass, tallying eight rebounds, chipping in 11 points of her own and two steals. For Gordon, Brynn Barnhard and Ami Rivera totaled 12 points each.
 
Roger Williams (10-5, 7-1 CNE) will travel to Hartford in their next matchup, taking place on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 5:30. Following their tilt with Hartford they will head back home to take on Nichols College on Saturday, Jan. 25
