BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams men's basketball team defeated Salve Regina 73-57 in non-conference action in their return from winter break.
The two teams played each other even to begin the first half, until Roger Williams was able to pull away, ending the first frame with a 9-0 run, giving them a nine-point lead at the half. Out of the half, the Hawks continued their run, expanding their lead to 20 just four minutes into the half. Salve would play them even the rest of the way, giving the Hawks a comfortable 16-point win on Thursday afternoon.
The Hawks shot 45% from the field in the outing, with the opponent shooting just 35%. The Hawks defense led to 18 turnovers for the opponent, to their own 13.
Individually, sophomore
Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) led the Hawks, securing his second double double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) added a game-high 14 points In the win. For the opponent, Declan Walmsley led the way with 13 points. James Jolly chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
The win brings the men to 7-3 on the season and a perfect 6-0 at home. The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 4 where they will take on Suffolk in Conference of New England action.
