BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to #6 Babson College on Wednesday evening at MacDowell Field in a non-conference matchup.
The Beavers dictated much of the pace, outshooting the Hawks 14-4 while holding an 11-2 edge in penalty corners. Roger Williams was able to stay in the contest behind strong goalkeeping, as
Hannah Brazil (Sandwich, Mass.) saved eight shots in the cage.
Chelsea King (Albany, N.Y.) supplied the Hawks' offense, scoring her 14th goal of the season in the 34th minute to give RWU the lead. Babson responded four minutes later and evened the score at 1-1.
Both teams battled defensively, with Roger Williams and Babson each receiving green cards but neither side able to capitalize. The game went into sudden-death overtime tied 1-1. In the 65th minute, Babson converted off a penalty corner, slotting home the game-winner.
King led the Hawks with one shot on goal to go with her tally, while
Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) and
Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) each added shots on target.
Libby Corsetti (Arlington, Mass.) also recorded an attempt in the contest.
Roger Williams (7-4, 3-0 CNE) will host Johnson & Wales (R.I.) (6-3, 2-1 CNE) on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 12:00 PM.
