Field Hockey: Timbrouck Tallies Two in CNE Victory Over Johnson & Wales

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team, pushed their record in Conference of New England action to 4-0 on the season, as the Hawks downed Johnson & Wales, 4-1, Saturday afternoon on Bayside Field.

Roger Williams outshot the Wildcats, 18-1, in the contest, while also earning 13 penalty corner opportunities.

In the first quarter, the Hawks were able to strike, 6:49 into the contest. After a corner inserted by Chelsea King (Albany, N.Y.), the Hawks then saw Anna Kruggel (Scituate, Mass.) on the reception. Kruggel then back-handed a pass over to Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.), who was able to find a shooting lane for the goal.

RWU extended its lead a few minutes later, when Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) was able to take advantage of an open shooting lane, firing from the right side of Sophia Brea (Windham, N.H., sneaking through into the back of the cage.

The Hawks had a trio of opportunities in the second frame, while holding the Wildcats without a shot, taking a 2-0 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, the Hawks were able to tally another goal, playing a player down, with King putting the ball in on another corner opportunity. The Hawks then saw a shot from Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.)  blocked down and picked up by Timbrouck, who ripped a shot into the back of the cage, for her second goal of the game.

The Hawks continued to expand their lead in the fourth quarter, as Kruggel back-handed passed over to Monahan off a corner. A shot by Monahan led to King, burying a rebound, for her 15th of the season.

With 4:03 remaining in the fourth, the Wildcats finally connected as Ava Pontes (Somerset, Mass.) scored off a pass from Zofia Bangs (Stoughton, Mass.), which Bangs then fired and was able to see a ricochet off the Hawks' goalkeeper.

Brea made four saves in the contest for the Wildcats, falling to 6-4 on the season. Hannah Brazil (Sandwich, Mass.) moves to 7-4 on the year, without a shot faced, while Shea O'Neill (Medway, Mass.) served time in net over the final quarter of action.

Johnson & Wales (6-4, 2-2 CNE) will travel to face Wheaton on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 pm.  The Wildcats will then host Hartford for a CNE matchup on Saturday, Oct. 11 ahead of a visit from UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Roger Williams (8-4, 4-0 CNE) will travel to face UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6:00 pm ahead of a Friday, Oct. 10 match against CNE foe Gordon to wrap up the following week.
