Men’s Basketball: Tully Names Captains for 2025-26 Season

BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike Tully has announced the appointment of Phillip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.), Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.), Kyle Monahan (Maynard, Mass.), and Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) as captains for the team in the upcoming 2025-26 season.

"We're proud to announce this year's captains," said Tully. "They exemplify what it means to lead both on and off the court. Their work ethic, character, and commitment to our program set the tone every day. These are players their teammates look up to, and they've earned this responsibility through consistent effort and selfless leadership. I'm excited to see how they help guide this team throughout the season."

A guard, Sughrue started 26 of the Hawks' 27 games last season, leading the squad in assists with 110 on the year. Sughrue also averaged 3.8 rebounds per game with 29 steals and 11 blocks. Sughrue ranked in the top 10 in assists per game, while leading in assist-to-turnover ratio. Throughout his collegiate career, the Senior has played 77 games, earning 68 starts, while shooting .458 from the floor, with a .425 three-point percentage.

Higgins started 14 games for RWU in the 2024-25 season while appearing in 26 games, with a career shooting percentage of .430, hitting .402 from beyond the arc, with 122 total rebounds. Last season, he registered a career-high 19 steals.

Monahan has been a vocal leader for the RWU Men's Basketball program the last three years, while playing in 20 games for the Hawks. The senior guard, has been a steady presence in the locker room and has shown leadership and commitment to the team, that have helped develop the team culture.

Rounding out the group is Miller, a junior, who has started in 48 out of 54 games in his collegiate career. Miller has sho .492 from the floor with a total of 496 attempts, while knocking down 50 percent of his shots last season. Miller pulled down 6.3 rebounds per contest in 2024-25, while dishing out 3.4 assists per contest with 38 steals.

Roger Williams is set to open their season on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 3:30 pm against Clark in the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.
