BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams Women's Tennis team saw their fall season come to a close as the No. 4 Hawks lose to No. 5 Endicott, 4-0, in the Conference of New England (CNE) First Round on Wednesday afternoon.
At the point of suspension on Tuesday, Endicott currently led, 1-0, after capturing the doubles point. Emily Leclerc and Caroline Sutliffe defeated Valentina Abarca (Robamba, Ecuador) and Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) 6-3, before Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) and Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) defeated Nadia Uzelac and Sam Hartman 6-3. The difference maker came as Abbey Fleming and Amber Woods won a hard-fought battle against Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) 7-6(7-5).
The match continued with singles play this afternoon, as Sutliffe defeated Mancini 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot, extending Endicott's lead to 2-0. The Gulls' made it 3-0 as Woods defeated Petroniro 6-3, 6-1. Finally at the No. 2 spot, Jillian Friedman defeated Pecora 6-3, 6-1 to secure the win for the Gulls. Endicott will continue their postseason run, traveling to No. 1 Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Roger Williams finished the season 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the CNE. Junior Palmieri recorded an undefeated fall season in singles play, finishing 15-0.
