NEWPORT, R.I. — The Roger Williams University women's tennis team moved to 9-0 on the year with a 6-1 win over Salve Regina on Thursday afternoon at the Salve Regina Tennis Courts.
The Hawks secured the doubles point by sweeping all three courts. At No. 1, Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuadaor) and Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) earned a 6-4 win over Stephanie Davis and Kaydin Pinto. At No. 2, Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) and Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) picked up a 6-4 victory against Anna Grace Hjerpe and Madigan Murphy, while Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) rolled to a 6-1 result over Cayla Dolan and Sophia Padro at No. 3.
In singles, Abarca downed Pinto 6-4, 6-3 at the top flight, and Pecora followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Davis at No. 2. Bache topped Murphy 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, Palmieri defeated Hjerpe 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, and Petroniro closed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sloane Nelson at No. 6. The Seahawks' lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Padro rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-5 win over Mancini.
Salve Regina (1-2, 0-1 NEWMAC) will host UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Oct. 8 before hosting the Grass Court Doubles Championships at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Roger Williams (9-0, 4-0 CNE) will host University of New England on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 12:00 pm ahead of a Wednesday Oct. 8 ahead of participating in the Grass Court Doubles Championships hosted by Salve Regina.
