Field Hockey: Hawks Pick Up Non-Conference Win at UMass Dartmouth

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team picked up a non-conference win on Wednesday evening, 7-0, at Cressy Field.

The Hawks tallied 31 shots in the game while putting 20 on target, while holding UMass Dartmouth without a shot in the contest. Penalty corners were also 14-1 in favor of the Hawks.

Shane Cueman had 11 saves in the contest, while falling to 1-8 on the season, while Hannah Brazil (Sandwich, Mass.) picked up the win playing the opening 15 minutes of action. Chelsea King (Albany, N.Y.) led the Hawks offense with five points, off a pair of goals and an assist.

The Hawks struck in the first quarter, just 2:19 in, as Anna Kruggel (Scituate, Mass.) was on the receiving end of a penalty corner insert by King, that Kruggel then sent to Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) who was able to strike for the first goal of the game. Just under four minutes later, the Hawks stuck again as McKenzie Foley (Hanover, Mass.) sent a pass over to King who was able to put it past the Corsair goalkeeper.

The Hawks took a 3-0 lead into the second, with Kruggel finishing after a shot attempt y Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) was saved, that Kruggel finished later. The second quarter the Hawks added another as Lexi Yost (Swansea, Mass.) combined with Eva Wood (Sandwich, Mass.) as Wood tallied her second goal of the season, as the Hawks took a 4-0 lead into the half.

Opening up the second half, King tallied her second goal of the game, as Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) tallied the helper. With 9:06 remaining, Yost scored after an insert by King, and a decisive touch by Kruggel led to the double assist.

The Hawks tallied another goal in the fourth, with Brodie Loveland (West Milford, N.J.) tallying the score, assisted by Emiley Vinciguerra (Pelham, N.H.).

UMass Dartmouth (1-9, 0-2 LEC) will host Southern Maine on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 12:00 pm in Little East Conference (LEC) action. The Corsairs will then travel to face Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 4:00 pm in non-conference play.

Roger Williams (9-4, 4-0 CNE) will host Gordon on Friday, Oct. 10 at 4:00 pm against Gordon. The Hawks will then travel to Salve Regina on Wednesday, Oct. 15 for a 6:00 pm matchup ahead of a Saturday, Oct. 18 tilt in Beverly, Mass. against Endicott.
