Men’s Ice Hockey: Hawks Hold Leopards Down for Two Periods, Wentworth Erupt for Three in Third

EVERETT, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Ice Hockey team dropped the first of their Conference of New England (CNE) weekend series against Wentworth on Friday evening, falling 3-0, at Allied Veterans Rink.

Jacob Jaslow (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) picked up the loss, after making 26 total saves in the matchups, allowing two goals in the contest. Jack McGovern backstopped the Leopards with 22 saves in the game, including seven in the third period to keep the clean sheet.

For the Leopards, Nick Bosch had three blocked shots in the game, while Danny Phelan, Shea Thibault, and Xavier Vaillancourt each had two blocks. The Leopards saw strong face off performances by Nolan Pecora (8-for-12), Dane Probe (7-for-11), and Nikolas Sombrowski (8-for-11) in the faceoff circle.

For Roger Williams Colin Kwak (Alpharetta, Ga.) had four blocks, while Daxton St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine), Cooper St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine), and Ryan Drust (Middletown, Conn.) each added one. Daxton St. Hilaire had eight wins at the dot, with Cooper St Hilaire and TJ Sullivan (Melrose, Mass.) each going 6-for-14.

After a pair of scoreless periods, the Leopards scored 4:34 into the game with a goal by George Kolovos assisted by Nolan Lowe and Sombrowski. The Leopards tallied another goal with 3:25 remaining in the final period, with Kolovos taking advantage of a power play, with Sombrowski and Desmond Johnson having helpers on the goal.

With 1:27 remaining, the Leopards sealed the deal with a 4-on-6 goal during a short-handed empty net opportunity by Hunter Wilson, after intercepting the puck in the neutral zone.

The Hawks went 0-for-5 on the power play while Wentworth tallied a goal on one of their two opportunities.

Roger Williams (1-5-0, 0-5-0 CNE) will host the Leopards on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 5:00 pm ahead of a road contest on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The Hawks will then be off until Friday, Dec. 5 at 5:00 pm at Driscoll Arena.
