BRISTOL, R.I. – The No. 1 seed in the Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament, Roger Williams University, is set to open its conference tournament run against No. 5 Western New England on Bayside Field Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 4:00 pm.
The No. 5 Golden Bears come in with a 9-8-2 record while posting a 6-3-1 record within Conference of New England play on the season. Western New England needed overtime on Saturday, Nov. 1, in their First Round matchup at No. 4 Hartford for a road victory, 2-1.
The Hawks enter the CNE Semifinals with a 13-1-4 record on the year while going 8-1-1 in CNE action. The Hawks' latest contest was a 1-0 win over Wentworth on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The Hawks enter the tournament on a three-match winning streak after suffering their lone loss of the season to Hartford.
As a team, the Golden Bears rank second in scoring with 35 total goals through 19 matches this season, while the Hawks sit with 30 goals over their 18 contests. The key difference comes in goals allowed, with the Hawks ranking atop the league in the category with 11 allowed all season, with WNE ranking seventh in the conference. RWU ranks second in scoring margin with a 1.06 margin of victory, while WNE sits with a 0.52 margin.
Individually, the Golden Bears offense is run through Tyler Lewis and Ben Riley, who each have 10 goals, while Lewis leads the team with 25 total points with five assists on the year. Riley has 21 points with one assist. Lewis also leads the squad in Game-winning goals with four on the year.
Roger Williams is led by Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.), who tallied eight goals and one assist on the season for 17 points through seven games, and Dylan Robbins (Johnston, R.I.), who had 16 total points with five goals and six assists on the year. RWU has seen 10 different goal scorers on the season, with Jastrab and Brandon Rodriguez (Norwalk, Conn.) leading the squad with three game-winning goals on the year.
The primary goalkeeper for the Golden Bears is Braylon Casinghino, who has started 15 games with a .622 save percentage, posting a 7-6-1 record on the year with 17 goals allowed and 28 saves.
For the Hawks, they will likely turn to Eliot Panaccione (Pepperell, Mass.) with eight shutouts on the season and a 0.667 goals against average. Which sits atop the conference in both categories. Panaccione has a 0.783 save percentage in 15 matches, 10 goals allowed, and 36 saves.
