BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team was unable to overcome a hot-shooting Connecticut College squad on Sunday afternoon, falling 81–57 at the Campus Recreation Center. The Hawks hung tight early with several lead-tying baskets in the first half, but the Camels gradually pulled away behind strong perimeter play and points off turnovers.
Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) led the Hawks with 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting while adding five rebounds and a steal. Ryan Higgins (Boston, Mass.) contributed 12 points, and Ryan Hammarlund (Southington, Conn.) chipped in nine points along with a pair of assists. RWU shot an improved 46 percent from the floor in the second half but couldn't close the gap as Connecticut College continued to convert efficiently on the offensive end.
Connecticut College shot 48.5 percent overall and 37.9 percent from deep, including 11 made threes. James LaFrance paced the Camels with 21 points, while Robert Blandburg added 13 and Garrett Clar finished with 12. Connecticut College capitalized on 18 RWU turnovers, turning them into 24 points and outscoring the Hawks 37–15 in bench production.
Miller remained the driving force offensively for RWU, frequently attacking the lane and finishing through contact, while Higgins provided needed perimeter spacing. But despite stretches of defensive pressure and transition scoring, the Camels continued to answer with timely baskets, widening their lead to 24 in the closing minutes.
RWU (3–4, 1–0 CNE) will look to reset and regroup as they play at Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
