Men’s Ice Hockey: Hawks Ice Game with Two Goals in Third, Record First Shutout in NCAA Program History

win by shutout in program history, as the Hawks downed the Golden Bears of Western New England, 4-0, in Conference of New England (CNE) play.
 
The Hawks outshot the Golden Bears 30-25. Roger Williams had seven blocked shots to Western New England's six blocks. The Hawks won 29 of the 51 faceoff attempts, with Gabe Reis (Tenafly, N.J.) earning 10 wins in his 13 opportunities. Daxton St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine) also went 50 percent in faceoff wins, while TJ Sullivan (Melrose, Mass.) earned 12 wins in 20 attempts.
 
Tyler Branish (Castle Pines, Colo.) and Colin Kwak (Alpharetta, Ga.) each had two blocks to lead the Hawks, while three players had three points each in the win. Kosta Kastanias had four shots in the game and Daniel Demchuk and Michael Bottrell each had three shots in the game.
 
The Hawks struck 14:38 into the contest, with Sullivan scoring off an assist by JJ Alger (Brewster, Mass.). Roger Williams had 10 shots in the opening frame, while holding the Golden Bears to eight. In the second period, the Hawks added another goal with Rooney finishing after Alger and Kwak assisted on the goal to put the Hawks up by two.
 
In the third period the Hawks were able to seal the vicotyr with Rooney adding his second of the game, before Alger buried one two minutes later, putting the Hawks up 4-0 with 2:57 remaining.
 
"I'm very happy for our guys – a complete team effort and an all-around team win," spoke Head Coach Chris Hall. "We had contributions up and down the lineup, and everyone did their job tonight. Games are a reflection of our work during the week, and I'm happy that the guys were rewarded for their efforts. We emphasized creating offense and possessing the puck and that work paid off. It's a great group of young men who continue to grow every night.
 
Roger Williams (3-6-0, 2-5-0 CNE) will travel to face UMass Boston on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4:00 pm. The Hawks will then host Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7:00 pm to round out the fall semester.
