BOSTON, MASS. – The Roger Williams men's basketball team fell to the Suffolk Rams, 93-81 in Conference of New England action on Saturday afternoon. The loss brings the Hawks to 8-4 in conference play.
The Rams jumped on the Hawks early in this one, getting off to an 11-0 start in just two and a half minutes. The Hawks were able to slowly climb back throughout the first frame, with back-to-back
Ryan Hammarlund (Southington, Conn.) layups cutting the deficit to just three with eight minutes to play in the half. Five minutes later,
Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) layup gave the men their first lead of the game at 35-34. The Hawks would take that lead into the half, 44-38.
The second half would go a lot differently for the men, as Suffolk would outscore the Hawks 55-37, shooting a remarkable 73% from the field in the process. Suffolk would take over the lead just two minutes into the second frame, and never look back. The Rams held the lead for the remainder of the game, expanding it at large as 18 with a few minutes to play. They would coast to a 12-point victory and improve their record to 9-3 in the process.
Ryan Higgins (Boston, Mass.) led the Hawks with 20 points, shooting 6-7 from the field and 3-3 from three-point distance.
Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) would add 19 of his own in the loss. For the Rams, Keenan Robertson would pour in a game high 37 points, 22 of which came in the second half alone. Danny Yardemian would pitch in 23 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists in the victory.
Roger Williams will travel back home to take on Western New England where they will look to avenge their loss from January, which saw them fall 90-70.
