Women's Lacrosse: Hawks' Season Opens with Loss to #17 Stevens

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team opened the 2025 campaign with a loss to #17 Stevens on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Ducks, 17-6.
 
RWU went 11 for 15 in clearance attempts, while Stevens secured 17 successful clears out of 21 chances. The Hawks won the draw control battle, 14-13, but fell in ground balls, 23-20.
 
Kimmy Creegan had four points with a goal and three helpers, while Mia Pantano had tow goals. Defensively, Zoey Cormican made seven saves in the matchup, while Miranda Hayes earned eight draw controls, with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
 
For Stevens, Emily Leiby tallied seven points with four goals and three assists, while earning two draw controls. Stefanie Sellitto also had five goals in the contest.
 
Roger Williams struck first in the opening frame, scoring 1:23 into the contest, when Kimmy Creegan found Emma Terino open for the first goal of the season. Stevens leveled th3 score just under a minute later, when Maddie Hogan converted on a free position attempt. Hogan added another two goals in the opening five minutes, leading 3-1.
 
With 9:19 remaining in the opening frame, Creegan scored her first goal of the season, before Allie Shamberger struck with 7:13 remaining in the first leveling the score at 3-3. The Hawks retook the lead with 6:36 remaining in the first frame, after Hayes scored her first of the season. Emily Leiby scored with 2:50 remaining in the first half, before Stefanie Sellitto scored with 1:44 left on the clock to take a 5-4 lead into the second.
 
Just 56 seconds into the second frame of action, Mia Pantano scored her first of the season, leveling the match at 5-5, but Stevens answered with three straight goals, to take an 8-5 lead into the halftime break.
 
The second half went Stevens way, as the Ducks outscored the Hawks 9-1 in the second half, holding the Hawks scoreless over the final 19:58 of the contest.
 
Roger Williams (0-1, 0-0 CNE) will host Tufts on Sunday, Mar. 2 at 2:00 pm on Bayside Field. The Hawks will then host MIT and Colby on Friday, Mar. 7 and Sunday, Mar. 9 respectively, before traveling down to Panama City, Fla. for Spring Break.
