Women's Basketball: No. 3 Hawks Hosting No. 6 Suffolk in First Round of CNE Playoff Tournament

BRISTOL, R.I. – The No. 3 seeded Roger Williams women's basketball team is set to matchup with the No. 6 seeded Suffolk Rams on Tuesday evening as the second game of Tuesday's playoff double header at the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium in Bristol, R.I. The matchup between the Hawks and Rams will take place at 7:30 PM.

Roger Williams will be coming off an OT thriller victory over the University of New England this past Saturday afternoon, where Elizabeth Dufrane (Falls Church, Va.) knocked down a game-tying three-point jumper with just five seconds to play to send the game into overtime. The Hawks would go on to defeat the Nor'easters 65-63. The Hawks are coming into the playoff tournament hot, having won four of their last five games.

The Hawks and Rams have matched up twice already this season, with the Hawks controlling the season series 2-0. The teams first matchup took place on Jan. 4 in Bristol, where RWU trailed for the entirety of the game before mounting a fourth quarter comeback and coming out with a 67-62 victory. Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) and Lilli Clark (Willimantic, Conn.) led the way in the victory, each recording 15 points and six rebounds.

In their next matchup which took place in Boston, Mass. the two teams would go back and forth throughout the first half. The Hawks would come out of the locker room hot, grabbing the lead early into the third quarter and never looking back. They would hold the Rams to just 26 points in the second half and go on to win comfortably, 71-59. Chloe Richardson put up a season-high 17 points in the win, knocking down three, three-point jumpers in the process.

The matchup set to take place on Tuesday evening will be the first time ever the two teams meet in the playoffs. The Hawks will be looking to return to the CNE semi-finals for the fifth straight season, while the Rams will look to return to the semi-finals for the second straight season.

The winner of the battle will travel to No. 2 Endicott to take on the Gulls for the CNE semi-finals. On the other side of the bracket, No. 4 University of New England will host No. 5 Hartford on Tuesday evening as well, with the winner of that matchup traveling to No. 1 Western New England on Thursday.
