CLERMONT, Fl. – The Roger Williams softball team fell to Alfred University 7-0 in game one of their double header for the day. The loss brings the unit to 2-3 in Florida with five games to play.
Loretta Sorochty recorded the win for Alfred, pitching seven innings of shutout ball, allowing six hits in the process. Sorochty struck out two and walked two in the outing. For the Hawks,
Keira Quadros will receive the loss, as she pitched 3.1 innings allowing eight hits and six runs (four earned).
Sophia Bruno relieved Quardros of the pitching duties and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits.
Alfred wasted no time getting on the board as Abigail Gatza drove in two runs via a single up the middle in the top of the first inning. Jessica Remm would come around to score alongside Samantha Vidal. Gatza, the cleanup hitter, would add two more hits throughout the contenst, totaling three of the team's 11.
Meghan Neto would expand the lead even further with an RBI single into right center, bringing home Remm in the process. Remm would tally three runs in total in the game, due in part to her efforts at the plate where she went 3-4 with a single, double and triple.
Alfred would tack on four more runs over the course of the next two innings to make it 7-0 in their favor. Neither team would score in the final two innings, as Alfred would secure the win comfortably.
In the loss, Roger Williiams saw contributions from
Ashley Klingberg, who recorded a multi-hit effort, alongside Kayleigh O'Conner who was the only other Hawk to reach base twice in the battle.
The Hawks would be returning right back to action following the loss for the second game of their double header which was coming against Montclair State.
