WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team used 14 hits, and took advantage of mistakes by the Lynx of Rhodes College on Tuesday, defeating their Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opponent, 8-1.
With the loss, Rhodes falls to 14-2 on the season, with Reid Lampert taking the loss for the Lynx, while giving up seven hits, facing 23 batter, with five runs, three earned and eight strikeouts. Mick Arney came in in relief tossing three innings giving up one run, with five strikeouts, facing 13 batters.
For Roger Williams,
Jonathan Quinn got the start on the bump, tossing four innings, with four hits, and seven strikeouts with 17 batters faced.
Branden Steinberg came in in relief to secure the win, moving to 1-0 on the season

Owen Hibbard went 4-for-5 at the plate, with a triple and two RBIs, with
Mike Masino record3ed a pair of hits coming around to score.
Sam Weigel hit a homerun in the matchup, while recording two hits on the game, with two RBIs, and coming around to score twice. The Hawks had three stolen bases on the day, with
Nick Sheehan, Hibbard, and
Ethan Keeney recording one each.
For the Lynx, Quinn Blackman had a pair of hits, with a walk, with Ben Daniel, Kisho Shima, Ben Burkhart, and Corbin Kiner each adding a hit, with Myles Kruger earning an RBI. Kinder had a double on the day.
The Hawks opened up scoring after runners were standing on the corners,
Dennis Folan hit a ball into left field, that was misplayed, allowing for two runs to score, with Weigel coming in from first. The Lynx had runners on the corners in the bottom of the inning, but Quinn struck out the final batter to keep the game at 2-0 in favor of RWU.
With Keeney standing on second in the top of the second, following a stolen base. Masino then hit an RBI single bringing in Keeney to score before ending the inning.
The game was then scoreless until the top of the fifth inning. Hibbard hit a two-out triple to center field, before coming around to score on a wild pitch. During the same at-bat, Weigel hit a ball over the outfield fence, putting Roger Williams up 5-4 after the top of the fifth.
Rhodes finally brought a run across in the bottom of the sixth inning, with Kruger grounding out to short, but Blackman came in to score after stealing third. Roger Williams added another run int ht top of the seventh, taking a 6-1 lead, before adding two runs in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
Roger Williams (2-3, 0-0 CNE) will face Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday, Mar. 12 at 6:00 pm, before taking on Beloit on Friday, Mar. 14 for a double-header at 3:45 PM.
