ORLANDO, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team defeated Marywood on Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus, 7-0, as they finished their third match of Spring Break with a victory.
The Hawks' grabbed the doubles point, going 2-1 in doubles play. After winning the No. 3 doubles match between
Adriana Palmieri and
Emma Blanchard, 6-0, the Hawks fell at the No. 1 doubles with Marywood's Gabriella Nowak and Alex Vitale, taking a 6-3 victory over
Valentina Abarca and
Gabrielle Petroniro. The point was clinched with a No. 2 victory by
Izzy Pecora and
Ella Mancini edging out Kylie Kilgore and Faith Kendricks, 6-4.
In singles action, the Hawks kicked things off with a Petroniro earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot. Pecora followed with a No. 1 doubles win over Nowak, 6-2, 6-2, ahead of
Annette Carter who clinched the match at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Avianna Santarelli.
Palmieri took No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 win, ahead of Abarca closing out No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) victory. Mancini then closed out the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 win to secure the sweep.
Roger Williams (14-5, 4-2 CNE) will play Ohio Northern on Wednesday, Mar. 12 at 12:30 pm for their final scheduled match of the season.
