Softball: Hawks Drop Thursday Opener to SUNY Poly

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team fell in their opening contest on Thursday afternoon, 5-0, to the Wildcats of SUNY Poly at Hancock Park for The Spring Games.
 
Trinity Critelli recorded the win pushing her record to 2-2 on the season, while throwing six innings of scoreless ball, with five strikeouts and allowing two hits and five walks. Raegen Germano took the loss for the Hawks, giving up three earned runs, four total, with two hits, seven walks and three strikeouts.
 
At the dish, Shelbi Hagues and Annabella Mondello each recorded a hit with two RBIs in the game, with Mondello hitting a sacrifice fly, with Kimberly Birmingham going 2-for-2 on the day. The Hawks' two hits were recorded by Lucy Maurao, who also drew a walk, and Jamie Wells who hit a double. Birmingham and Kelly Powell each recorded a stolen base for the Wildcats.
 
SUNY Poly struck early, with Mondello hitting a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in Ava Faragon for the first run of the game. In the second Hagues knocked a single to left centerfield, with runners on second and third, bringing Critelli and Powell to score, taking a 3-0 lead.
 
A scoreless third inning was followed with the Wildcats continuing to expand their lead as Mondell hit a ground out to Sophia Bruno who had just taken over in the circle, for the out, but brought Leah Larsen across to score.
 
SUNY Poly added one more run in the sixth inning, with Alivia Turk knocking a single down the right field line as Birmingham came across to score.
 
Roger Williams (2-5, 0-0 CNE) will face Lake Forest in their second contest on Thursday.
