WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Beloit used a five-run third inning to power past Roger Williams, 7-3, in game two of non-conference baseball doubleheader on Friday evening.
Jack Alport led the Buccaneers' offense, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Seth Brankey added a two-run double, while Connor Vogel and Nolan Tomsyck each contributed RBI singles.
Nick Sheehan paced the Hawks with a 2-for-3 effort, including a double and a run scored. Rory Lynch also doubled and scored a run, while Sam Weigel and Chris Faraca each drove in a run.
Beloit's Ben Schweit (2-1) tossed six solid innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with eight strikeouts. Harvey Pena worked a perfect seventh inning with three strikeouts to close out the win. Nolan Niziol (0-1) suffered the loss for Roger Williams, surrendering five runs on six hits in 2.1 innings. Charles Ennis was a bright spot in relief, throwing 2.2 hitless innings with three strikeouts.
Roger Williams took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Weigel drove in Lynch with an RBI single. However, Beloit responded emphatically in the bottom half of the frame, capitalizing on six hits to plate five runs.
Beloit tacked on two more runs in the fourth, as Alport's RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Aiden Wood made it 7-1. Roger Williams chipped away with a run in the fifth on a fielder's choice by Faraca and added another in the sixth on a groundout from Ty Cali, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Roger Williams (3-5, 0-0 CNE) will close out their Spring Break trip to the RussMatt Invitational on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 1:00 pm when they face Mount Union.
