Baseball: Hibbard and Lariviere Power Hawks Past Beloit in Game One

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Behind a stellar performance from Owen Hibbard at the plate and dominant pitching from Lucas Lariviere, Roger Williams University cruised to a 6-1 victory over Beloit College on Friday afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational in game one of their doubleheader.

Hibbard powered the Hawks' (2-4) offense, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk, and two stolen bases. Ty Cali contributed with a double, a sacrifice fly, and a run scored, while Ethan Keeney added a key extra-base hit. Catcher Griffin Ruffner also played a pivotal role, reaching base twice and scoring two runs.

On the mound, Lariviere delivered a dominant outing, allowing just one run on four hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight without issuing a walk. Dylan Brenner secured the final out in relief.

Despite the loss, Beloit (5-3) had strong individual performances. Catcher Blake Nelson was a bright spot for the Buccaneers, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Miles Souza drove in the team's lone run with an RBI single in the seventh. Right fielder Seth Brankey and designated hitter Brendan Meyers each recorded a hit, with Meyers also reaching base after being hit by a pitch.

Starter Aiden Phipps took the loss for Beloit, allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings. Reliever Joshua Stern surrendered two more in his lone inning of work.

Roger Williams struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first when Hibbard singled, stole second, and scored on a Will Florio RBI single. The Hawks added another run in the second after Keeney doubled and later crossed the plate on Cali's sacrifice fly.

A two-run fourth inning extended the lead to 4-0, with Ruffner and Cali scoring on a fielder's choice and an RBI single from Hibbard. Roger Williams tacked on two more in the sixth, capitalizing on a Beloit error.

Beloit managed their lone run in the seventh when Souza delivered an RBI single. The Buccaneers struggled offensively, recording just five hits and striking out eight times.

Roger Williams (3-4, 0-0 CNE) will look to pick up another win in the Hawks' second game against Beloit.
