Baseball: Hawks Offense Blitz Corsairs in Non-Conference Win

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Roger Williams University baseball team erupted for 28 runs in a dominant 28-12 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup at Corsairs Field.

The Hawks exploded for 10 runs in the second inning and never looked back, securing their fourth win of the season behind an offensive barrage.

Senior left fielder Sam Weigel led the charge, going 4-for-6 with four RBIs, including a solo home run in the ninth inning. Rory Lynch also made an impact, driving in five runs and launching a grand slam in the fourth. Will Florio added three hits and three RBIs, while going yard, while Chris Balzano contributed a 3-for-6 performance with two RBIs.

On the mound, Conor Quinlan (1-2) picked up the win, allowing five runs over 4.1 innings in relief of starter Hugh CyhowskiCharles Ennis closed the door with three scoreless innings, striking out five.

UMass Dartmouth (7-6) struck first with a four-run first inning, capitalizing on an RBI double by Brett Baker and a sacrifice fly from Matt Tempone. However, Roger Williams responded in the second with a 10-run explosion, highlighted by Lynch's RBI hit-by-pitch and Balzano's two-run single.

After the Corsairs closed the gap to 15-12 in the fifth, Roger Williams pulled away again with a four-run sixth-inning and an eight-run seventh inning. Weigel, Florio, and Balzano all drove in runs before Lynch's grand slam put the game out of reach.
