Baseball: Lynch, Sheehan Homer as Hawks Rally Past Keene State For Win

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University baseball team stormed back from an early deficit to defeat Keene State, 12-7, on Wednesday afternoon at Paolino Field.

Nick Sheehan led the Hawks' offensive surge, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored, a home run, and an RBI, while Rory Lynch delivered a key three-run homer in the third inning. Ethan Keeney contributed a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI double, and Griffin Ruffner drove in two runs with a clutch hit in the eighth. For Keene State, Jonathan Chatfield was a bright spot, finishing 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a home run, while Anthony DiGiacomo added two RBIs with a double.

Roger Williams' bullpen played a pivotal role, with Ryan Camp (1-0) earning the win and Matthew Donovan picking up the save with two scoreless innings. Daniel Cantafi (0-1) took the loss for Keene State after allowing four runs in the decisive eighth inning.

Keene State (4-8) jumped ahead early, plating five runs in the first three innings, including a three-run third that featured an RBI double from Ethan Rainha and an RBI single from DiGiacomo. Chatfield added a solo home run in the seventh to keep the Owls in front.

Roger Williams responded in the bottom of the third when Lynch launched a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-3. Sheehan's solo homer in the fourth pulled the Hawks within one before the team tied the game 6-6 in the sixth on RBI singles from Masino and Sam Weigel.

The Hawks took the lead for good in the seventh when Sheehan scored on a passed ball, and Keeney followed with an RBI single. Roger Williams then broke the game open with a four-run eighth inning, capped by a two-run single from Ty Cali.

Donovan shut down the Owls over the final two innings, retiring the last four batters he faced in order to secure the win.

Roger Williams(5-7, 0-0 CNE) will open Conference of New England (CNE) play on Saturday, Mar. 22 at 12:00 pm when they host Suffolk for a doubleheader. The Hawks will then travel to Wentworth on Tuesday, Mar. 25.
