Softball: Quadros and O'Connor Dominate in Game Two to Secure Sweep

The Roger Williams University softball team secured a dominant 8-0 win over the Coast Guard Academy in game two of their doubleheader on Tuesday evening at Nitchman Field, highlighted by a strong stellar outing from pitcher Keira Quadros.

Quadros (2-2) was lights out in the circle, allowing just three hits while striking out seven over five innings of work, keeping the Bears' offense silent throughout the game.

The Hawks wasted no time setting the tone, plating three runs in the top of the first. Hailey Williams reached on an error before Shannon Starratt and Lucy Maurao followed with a single. RBI singles from Kelsey Burr and Kayleigh O'Connor, along with a run-scoring groundout by Vianna Chamberlin, put Roger Williams ahead 3-0 early.

Roger Williams tacked on another run in the third, as  Maurao reached on a single and later scored on an RBI groundout from O'Connor. The Hawks broke the game open in the fourth, striking for four more runs. Doubles by Williams and Starratt sparked the rally, while Christina Denovellis and  Chamberlin each drove in runs to extend the lead to 8-0.

Top hitting performances for Roger Williams came from Maurao, who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Denovelli, who also had two hits and an RBI. O'Connor contributed with a 2-for-3 day and drove in three runs, while Starratt added a key RBI double.

Coast Guard (5-3) struggled to generate offense against Quadros, managing only three hits and striking out seven times. The Bears' defensive woes also played a role, as they committed five errors.

Roger Williams (7-5, 0-0 CNE) will host Wheaton on Tuesday, Mar. 25 at 2:30 pm for a doubleheader, before opening Conference of New England (CNE) play against Gordon on Friday, Mar. 28 at 2:30 pm.
